[Toy] Superman Man of Steel Movie Masters Faora and General Zod (Kryptonian Armor) action figure review

Toy has posted a new item, 'Superman Man of Steel Movie Masters Faora and
General Zod (Kryptonian Armor) action figure review'

With Superman the Man of Steel movie climbing higher on the charts the first
series of 6" Movie Masters figures are beginning to disappear from the pegs.
Fortunately there's a new wave to restock that contains an older General Zod in
Kryptonian Armor...

[Toy] Botcon 2013 Machine Wars Electro / Autobot Electrons

Toy has posted a new item, 'Botcon 2013 Machine Wars Electro / Autobot
Electrons'

Autobot Electrons is never one to duck out of trouble, he would never run away
from a challenge, no matter what the odds. He is strongly opinionated and
willing to fight for what he believes is right. Because of the excessive speeds
he drives and his more than enthusiastic nature, Autobot Electrons requires his
fair share of maintenance and found himself in Hoist's workshop on more than one
occasion. The shorter the odds, the more he likes it.
After Sizzle's premonition of the Machine Wars, Autobot Electrons came to
Cybertron where he worked with Mirage in an attempt to prepare the planet for
the war. Since those in charge were not convinced of Sizzle's ability, Autobot
Electrons and Mirage had to work outside of established regulations. They
provided arms and upgrades to civilians of Cybertron with little regard to who
they were providing them to. His own upgrades were self-given through illegal,
off the books efforts. Unfortunately for the duo, those efforts did not go
unnoticed by Cybertron Security.

Machine Wars "Autobot Electrons" or Electro to give him his "real" name is
really less of a Machine Wars toy, and more of an add-on for the Botcon 2010
Generation 2 set, which is set in the same universe as the 2013 set. He's a
straight up redeco of Hoist, with the same new head, and reuses the Generations
Kup mold.

Electro is a satisfying figure. He has a nice shade of yellow-gold plastic (but
not the infamous GPS prone plastic!). The new head is a dead ringer for G2
Electro, and is a great likeness. I also like the fact he's been given blue eyes
- makes me think of Tailgate from More than Meets the Eye.

Overall, a worthy homage and an excellent deco. The choice of mold fits, and the
Kup mold was one of the nicer ones out there to pick out to use, so all good
there. He's one of my favourite pieces from this year's set, largely because I
like Generation 2 a lot.

[Toy] WFC Megatron Revisited

Toy has posted a new item, 'WFC Megatron Revisited'

So, after getting the Hasbro version of War For Cybertron Megatron, I eventually
stumbled upon the Japanese version. As a result, this wont be a full on review
as I pretty much covered what I wanted to with my review of the Hasbro one.
Being crammed into Takaratomys United line, This Megatron gets some additional
sexiness with some shiny paint. The most noticeable difference being a much
darker colour scheme. He comes on the usual Blister package. What I really liked
about the United line at this stage as they had some really cool battle scenes
of the toys themselves, but with some obvious photoshopping to make them look
like they are in battle. These pics are on the back of the box, along with a bio
and stats.

As it turns out, all the images of Megatron are actual toy images albeit heavily
edited. They look pretty cool!

Pretty powerful chap there isn't he?

Sexy little picture of the toy gesticulating majestically. Or perhaps maniacally
and a mention of his gimmicks, which is his launching cannon. Some nice head
shots of other figures that were available as well.Last one of the box, they
have some English, which has a translation of his function, which in Japanese is
. Which is Hakai Taitei lit:Emperor of Destruction. Yet the translation they
have used is Tyrant. Close enough and sounds less silly than Emperor of
Destruction. Oh and I see they added Decepticon on the front. Well, well, well.
I wonder if we will ever see the return of the Destrons?.Outside of the box he
looks very nice and beefy. Still.Articulation is exactly the same of course and
even though I still would have liked a waist joint, the Megatron is still rather
adaptable.

Here is is next to the US release. Interesting to see that even though it seems
that the Japanese one has fewer paint applications, it does look a lot nicer. I
added a bit of liner on white Megs as he looked a bit drab otherwise and to help
add a bit of definition to the sculpt. The Japanese one doesnt really need it
any as the darker plastic, while not game accurate, does aid the sculpt details
quite a lot.The red paint is slightly metallic looking and very nice indeed. You
can even see a bit more facial detail, just from the darker plastic. Nice. The
black dot on the forehead of the US one was done by me, but its all ready done
on the Japanese one.

The only real downer is the Decepticon insignia on his chest. It has a silver
background which causes the purple to blend in a little too much with the
background.

He has the allowance for light piping, but his eyes have been painted over.
However if you happen to have a strong enough light on handLooks rather menacing
I think. I like it.You can see the sculpted detail so much easier on the
Japanese version one.

I was thinking of selling my US one after doing this, but I did have the
opportunity to play around with fusion cannons.

COME GEEEET SSSOOOOOMMMMEEEEE.Tanks Mode is still the future tank of random
bits, but it looks more metallic and tank like thanks to the darker plastic.

Its slightly classier looking than the white version, but again, that is all due
to the inaccurate game colouring. At the time, TakaraTomy where including these
cards in the toys for use with gaming machines in dept stores in Japan. Sadly I
dont think I ever saw one, but it included all series at the time, so I have
some Animated ones and United ones as well.

I assume the game was some kind of fighting/pokemon sort of thing. And so there
you have it. A little comparison piece of two Megatrons, what I find most
interesting is even though I prefer the TakaraTomy one due to its plastic colour
and snazzy red paint, it hasnt made me think the Hasbro one is total rubbish.
They both have their strengths and weaknesses. While the Hasbro is more game
accurate and has MORE paint than the TakaraTomy one, the TT looks a bit nicer as
a toy. So once again, as with my Japanese Animated conclusions, I am going to
say that the TT one looks nicer as a toy, but the Hasbro one is more accurate to
the source material.What a twist!

[Toy] Galaxy Force Starscream

Toy has posted a new item, 'Galaxy Force Starscream'

Aaah, Galaxy Force. Without a doubt this series is in my Top 3 of Transformers
lines. Incidentally, my top 3 consists of Generation 1, Animated and Galaxy
Force, but I cant put one over the other, so there is no Number 1Old Starscream
here is a bit of an odd one. The Japanese release got a single release in show
accurate colours, but despite being a major character in the show, the not
Japanese release only got released in a two-pack with Vector Prime. He was also
painted vastly different too. I dont count that abominable Supreme Starscream
which was a slightly modified version of this toy, but blown up to ridiculous
size. It was Horrid. My main reason for getting this Starscream was because he
appears to be based on the old Tetra-jet as the fandom refers to them as. Which
is the triangle jet modes they had on Cybertron in the original cartoon. It also
looks cool.

Robot mode is quite chunky. This Starscream is a powerful Starscream. Being in
Galaxy Force he has a Force Chip gimmick which is the reason why he has the
large wing bit hanging off his back. It isnt that bad to be honest and is a
decent trade off as it doesnt affect the toy too much.Sculpting is very good.
There are details all over his body and his head has enough details to look like
Starscreams head, including vents on the side and a nice scowl. I love the way
his mouth has been done. This isnt quite your whining, lurking Starscream, he is
a Starscream who can actually get things done. The wings on his shoulders can be
folded back if you dont like them, but I like them so leave them as is. The
inclusion of the yellow missile pod ( ?) things is a nice addition as well,
although I suspect they are there more to hide his head in vehicle mode rather
than a G1 homage.

Having a bit more of a look at his ambient sculpting, and you can see its in
places where you wouldnt think theyd put any. What I do like though is under the
Force Chip port he has a couple of holes which can have stands plugged into them
giving you some great options for various display set ups. Just make sure you
have a strong stand. The little one I used is too weak and so he was rather
wobbly.

Even the back of his head has lots of sexy sculpting. Mmmmmmm! Yummy! His legs
have the ability to be posed in a wide variety of positions as they are
relatively unhindered, but the same cant be said for his shoulders. He is also
slightly let down by tiny little pudgy arms that bend in the middle of the
fore-arm. There is a hinge joint that is used for transforming that can become a
pseudo elbow, but it looks very thin and cut off when you do bend with it.His
gun can also be mounted behind his back when in robot mode as well, as a
launcher though its not a very interesting weapon. It is also his main gun for
jet mode as well. One thing that I was disappointed with was the little guns on
either side of the cockpit/chest dont move. It would have been GREAT if they
could swivel up and down and wouldnt have taken that much effort. They certainly
LOOK like they want to move, but they area solid piece moulded with the chest.
This oversight was fixed with the supreme version, but that and an extra cannon
were the only changes.

Oh and I think he is the first Starscream to have some pointy shoes if you so
wish. He is a Voyager size and if I remember correctly, Cybertron/Galaxy Force
was the line that brought in the change to this size classing. I do think that
Voyagers have most certainly shrunk since then.

When you plug in his Force Chip, extra doodads happen. Luckily they are pretty
good on Starscream and dont detract from they toys design much and they look
great.FORCE CHIP, IGNITION!PLUG!KACHING

Starscream gets these incredibly cool blades that flip out from his wings bits.
They are nicely sculpted, look very cool, but would be tricky to use in real
life I think. Both blades slip out at the same time. There are no noise chips,
which is a relief as I am sure a speaker and battery pack would have ruined the
figure.

And now the cool action available to his legs comes in handy!

Stick him on a stand and see how we go hey? You can see how some elbow blades
might be a bit hard to wield.

The swords work with the vehicle mode as well. Nifty. Nothing quite like a plane
with swords hey? So speaking of planes with swords, lets have a look at the
vehicle mode.Transformation is fun, easy and quick. I think Galaxy Force got the
balance right between complexity and enjoyment. The hardest part for me is
getting the knees past the arms, they feel like they need to click out just a
tiny tiny bit more.

Whooosh! I love the look of this jet mode. Even after the snazzily designed
War/Fall of Cybertron Starscream I still prefer the look of this dude. My only
real complaint would have to be the visible head syndrome with it sticking right
up there a shame really, but I guess it does kind of flow into the Force Chip
port area in a way. Buut, not really.
Once again sculpting is lovely. Oddly for a cybertronian mode he has a cockpit
with a bit of translucent plastic.

Hm, I guess with the vents on the head, they kind of hide it a little bit.

Lovely. You can split the tail wing for an X-fighter style if you like as well.
In jet mode the Force Chip doesnt detract from the mode at all.

I love this toy. Its a great Transformer, good paintwork, easy to transform,
neat gimmick that doesnt ruin the toy and actually adds. I have a friend who is
always asking me if I sell it, to let him know first. I think I am going to be
sorry to say, I dont think Ill ever get rid of this one. Its just too nice.

Toy has posted a new item, '2013 SDCC - Classic 1966 BATMAN TV Series Model Kit
by Moebius Models with Original Box Art!'

OK, there are TWO great things about this photo and one of them I'm really proud
of. First, we finally get to see what Moebius Models is doing with their
brand-new line of Classic 1966 BATMAN TV Series Model kits. Here, they show the
Adam West figure. Oh man, this thing is a total Art Masterpiece!! I would have
killed for this model when I was a little kid, ha!
Then, speaking of "Art Masterpiece", check out (to the right), the original BOX
ART that was done by our good friend Christopher Franchi. Please click on the
pic here for a larger, sharper, version.Yeah, we know the guy who did this art.
(He created the super-awesome BAT-BLOG HEADER that you see at the top of this
page!!) His artwork is extremely detailed and always professionally well done.
In fact, this box art is so amazing that it's kind of a shame that they will add
all sorts of bar codes and lettering all over it later, ha ha! All kidding
aside, the finished product will probably look great too.The only product
details we have right now is that it will come out in the last quarter of 2013
and will have a Suggested Retail Price of about $32.99.Also, Stay tuned to the
Bat-Blog and we'll keep you posted on more Model Kits that are coming out!

[Toy] Generation IDW 30th Anniversary Megatron

Toy has posted a new item, 'Generation IDW 30th Anniversary Megatron'

Just received the new IDW 30th Anniversary Megatron today and couldn't wait to
get my hands on this guy. He came loose as its a "back door" special. First
impression of the toy is he feels solid and I love this look for Megatron. Like
the previous 30th Annivesary deluxes I reviewed already, the transformation is
pretty simple for this guy except I had bit of an issue for the head clearance.
Its very little room for error here. So on to the review
Megatron is mainly made up of a black plastic with specks of metallic flakes in
his plastic. In stealth bomber mode he is black with some red and metallic
purple paint details

Here's a pic of the underside of the bomber mode

Here he is in robot mode, his transformation is very easy and in this mode its a
good representation of the IDW version on Earth. You see more purple in this
mode with bits of purple plastic and metallic purple paint.

The back of the robot mode is a bit hollow in the leg but still very little
kibble.

The head sculpt is also a very good rendition of Megatron with his classic
bucket head and a silver painted face.

The wings form to make Megatron Rail arm cannon.

Overall I'm happy with this figure as he has nice paint apps an easy fun
transformation. His size is a bit small for Megatron but still scale well with
other deluxe figures. I wish Hasbro had made this guy a Voyager as it would have
been "Boss" if they did. Check out below for some size comparison.

Lining up well with other Deluxes

Posing with other versions of Megatron and fitting in on my classic shelf

[Toy] Legion Class Evac

Toy has posted a new item, 'Legion Class Evac'

This little guy is supposed to be a representation of the dude you ride in, in
the Transformers Ride at Universal Studios Singapore and somewhere else. There
is the only place where you can buy a deluxe sized one, but they did have the
fore-sight to make up a smaller Legion sized fellow for general release. I
grabbed it because I think it is cool. Read on to find out why. He comes
packaged in robot mode, much like most of the legion class characters doe. What
I like about this guy is that he looks like a Cybertronian mode car with jets
and doodads sticking out the front and back. At the time, the game Fall of
Cybertron was kicking about and this guy looks like a prime candidate for that
game, he never shows in the game but its a cool vehicle nonetheless. Annoyingly
he comes with a generic legion class gummy weapon, it looks exactly like
Bumblebees weapon. It looks a bit large and derpy and I think I lost it
somewhere too. Articulation is about what you would expect from a Legion
figure. Knees, hips and shoulders all using ball joints, except for the knees
which are hinged. I would have like an elbow joint as his arms look rather long.
Ambient sculpting is pretty good and there is a LOT of detail on the little guy.
Paint work cant quite be held to the same standard though. The Autobot symbol is
nice and crisp, but he just has a big blob of white on his face, groin and some
red on his arms. I really like the look of the robot mode and he is fun to play
with. His knee does bend a little bit low, so it can look odd, but it does have
a good range of motion. The face sculpt looks like it should be nice, but the
wash on his face really does hide any details to see. Rather sad really. I love
the chest shape and how its formed as its Classic Transformer car robot.
Transformation for Evac is fun, simple and quick. Pretty much what the Legion
size is all about really. MMMMMMmmm, look at that. its muy beefy.. I love the
large jet thing on the back, big exposed wheels at the back, the laser thing
sticking out of the grill just looks so cool. The feet stick of the top vehicle
roof, but this is in line with the vehicle mode for the ride, as the black
section is where people sit and there are chairs sticking up, so that kind of
makes it cool. You can also pop him up on his rear rocket, like a rocket.
Wooo! Damn, I love this vehicle mode. I found when I had it out for the shoot,
I found myself driving it along stuff and using the jet booster to make the jump
across impossible gaps. Its a very fun toy. This is a great toy. Quick to
change, adequate robot mode and beasty looking vehicle mode all add up to a lot
of fun. I think the only people who wouldnt like it are those who arent that
fond of future cars. I do think that everyone else will love it. I do. I think
kids will too!

blog for a mighty three years! Happy Birthday Tets Toys & Shenanigans! I first
started this blog as a way to use the photos of my toys that I enjoyed taking so
much, but would never get around to doing anything with. It has worked
beautifully in one respect failed in another. It has worked as I do get a way to
share my photos that I enjoy taking so much. It has failed however in that now I
have a hard drive full of pictures that I have taken for my blog. Oh well. You
win some, you lose some. On the plus side, I still enjoy taking pictures, as
well as doing posts for my blog, although sometimes it can be a fair bit of work
to get done. I initially intended to have a post every couple of days, but that
is quite a bit of work. But there ya go, I am happy with the way things are at
the moment and update when I can. After all I dont want to over do it and begin
hating the things I love.Ive met a great bunch of dudes as well. Special howdies
go out to Westen who has a developing blog and youtube channel. His video is a
bit choppy, but he says some good stuff. Drunketh from Horror movies and Beer
for some incredibly amusing reviews of videos, movies, toys and of course beers.
Gord, Colby, Heroic Decepticon and everybody else for the interaction and
motivation and um, browse-ivation ( ?).And so, to celebrate I have dedicated
this post to the 3rd Anniversary. Why? Because it is the most amusing (quirky?)
Beast Wars figure I know of. Heinlad. And I think that may summ up my blog
effectively
Oh Heinlad. Or Maybe Heinrad. Its open to interpretation. I love this guy and my
first meeting with him was in the early 2000s. I was at a friends place and he
was showing off some nice Beast Wars Bots. Among them was the mighty Big Convoy
and Heinlad (naturally) he first came to my attention as he has testicles. Stay
with me, this will make sense later on.

He comes in a nice little windowed box with Cybertoron sprawled across the side.
Oh Japanese Phonetics, how you make me chuckle sometimes. This is a reissue of
the original toy. The first release was a rather ridiculously expensive piece on
the second hand market for a while, but then Takara reissued him and they lost
value. I got this guy for $25.

One (of the many) special things this guy has is a clock face on his chest. He
is a working alarm clock run on batteries and is pretty noisy too. In the
cartoon (Beast Wars Neo) he is an enigmatic character with time altering powers.
Hence the clock.

He comes with a batch of stuff and the typical character card and the like.

Heinlad is a Japanese Tanuki. Often referred to as Raccoon dog, although I dont
think they are related to raccoons. He is also a clock. Now the Tanuki in
Japanese folk-lore is a magical creature, but not mischievous and are known for
their testes. There is a saying in Japan that translated equates to Even when
there is no wind, the Tanukis testicles blow in the wind. No! Really, there is.
If you doubt me, just check up Tanuki on Wikipedia or something. Or watch the
Pom Poko (by studio Ghibli) anime. Its great! I am not really one who likes
beast figures, as I dont really see the point but I do like mechanical beasts.
Luckily for me, old Heinlad here has a mechanically bit in him. So with that in
mind and since he is packaged in beast mode, lets have a look at the beast mode.
The articulation is pretty good and in a nice touch you can have him standing on
his hind legs like the typical tanuki statue that you see hanging around place
in Japan, or you can have him on all fours like a real life tanuki. Despite the
animal head breaking in half for the transformation, it has a remarkable amount
of movement to it due to the rather clever application of joints. He has lots of
lovely hinge and ball joints, including one for his thumb, which is needed to
hold the gun (in a way) and to make the transition from one form to another.

He has cute little paws printed on the bottom of his feet as well, which is a
cute touch. The clock is a working clock and can be set to work, but the switch
to turn of the alarm is the robots head, so unless you want to transform it with
the alarm going off as a challenge to wake you up, Id suggest only using the
alarm in robot mode. Most if not all the Beast Wars toys had a Spark crystal in
them which worked as a faction symbol for them. Much like the old G1 Rub signs.
What I find amusing about Heinlads is that his in in his NUTSACK!As you can see,
he has nice fur sculpting all over and the only bummer is the robot parts
hanging off of his bumb. Rather cleverly his guns missiles fit rather nicely in
his back pack. I like self contained stuff like that! They can stay plugged in
when in robot mode as well. He just has missiles hanging off his legs.

Oh, I almost forgot. What does any childrens toy need? (aside from testicles of
course). An alcohol reference!!! Oh Japan, how I love you!Heinlad comes with two.
The first is obvious and the one I like the most. A sake bottle. YUM!And the
other is a bit more vague. A vintners book apparently. Which is a wine maker.
Hmm, ok.

They both come with string and he can hold them merrily. Cleverly they combine
to form his rifle.

Nice hey? And with making a nice enough segue, lets check out that sexy robot
mode. Will the testicles carry over too???

Yes they have, but they have moved to the side. Transformation is simple and
obvious, probably the trickiest part is positioning the tanuki head. And that
isnt very tricky. I suspect the simple transformation is due to the clock that
takes up most of hi chest space but I am not complaining. In a rare circumstance
for Transformers, the gimmick (the clock) doesnt ruin the robot (or beast) mode
at all.As you can see, he has some nice Maximal-ish blues and whites going on
and articulation is pretty good. Balancing him can be tricky at times, as he has
pointed feet, but the toes and heel spurs are large enough. The shoulders are a
bit limiting because of the join, but just make sure you are aware of their
range of movement and think about how you want to have his arm pointed before
going and trying to move a joint in a way it might not be designed to move.

That red bit on the bottom left picture above has his spark crystal. It always
has struck me that he has almost Optimus Like colours and styling in his head
and he has hair sculpt on the back. The green goggles can be left on his head or
slid over his eyes, I like this as it really adds to his play options, just
think, when he engages his time shifting skills he has to put his goggles on.

I like it. I love that his robot eyes have the black around them, just like a
tanukis eyes and the blue part of the head has the hair interweaved through it
in a way, making it look like he has a mask on. A rather nice blending of
elements there. When you have the missiles mounted in the gun, he is armed like
this:

Alcoholic BURAAAASSSSTTTAAAAAARRRRRR!

There is some nice sculpting on the robot parts and his head can grow a neck if
you are using him as an alarm.

The only real downer about this idea though is that he isnt as stable in robot
mode as he is in Tanuki so he will probably fall over somewhere along the lines.
You can split the tanuki head in half and have the robot head exposed, but the
rest of the body in robot mode. It does defeat the purpose and take away the fun
a little bit though I think.Altogether though, Heinlad here is a lovely little
action figure. Actually, he isnt that small standing at around the 18cm mark,
but he is still lovely. Heinlad is a great example of a toy being based around a
specific gimmick, in this case a working analogue clock and still being a great
action figure and Transformer too. He isnt hindered by the clock in his chest at
all. Even the shoulders, while being awkward are adaptable and not ruined. In
fact they manage to keep the appearance of a heavy fur padding around there as
the shoulder bends from the bicep area. He even retains a waist swivel!!The
great toy is only enhanced by the silliness of this figure. The weapons and his
BALLS add an incredible amount of personality to this guy, his skills with time
and the funky goggles add heaps of play options to him and his mysterious stats
of all question marks, except for his rank(7) makes him a magical little quirky
character and I wish there was an version of BW Neo cartoon floating around
somewhere. Id even accept a completely Japanese version. Well, one that isnt
$350.Omake.Heeeeeyyy Baby!

[Toy] The Ultimate SDCC 2013 Exclusive Checklist!

Toy has posted a new item, 'The Ultimate SDCC 2013 Exclusive Checklist!'

The Ultimate SDCC 2013 Exclusive Checklist!Published by D_Martin on July 11,
2013 at 11:59 PM CST |

In order to keep track of everything being made available to attendees of the
2013 San Diego Comic-Con, we've created this handy Exclusive Figure &
Collectibles Checklist. This easy to print check list will be updated as more
information becomes available. At the time of this story's publication, the list
is still not 100% official, but all unofficial entries were meticulously
researched. While we don't advise printing this first draft, it is still the
most accurate list, and is a good source of information including prices,
edition sizes, and booths each exclusive is available at. If you notice a
missing or incorrect entry, please don't hesitate to let us know.
As long time CTR readers know, this is the fifth year we've offered attendees a
printable SDCC Exclusive checklist. You'll notice that we are using the same
color-code format we introduced a few of years back in order to help collectors
keep focus. If you are planning on getting everything, we suggest printing the
list in black and white, but if you are only looking at collecting one type of
exclusive, a color print will save you hours!

[Toy] Go Ape! from Patch Products Kids Card Game Product Review

Toy has posted a new item, 'Go Ape! from Patch Products Kids Card Game Product
Review'

Go Ape! by sticking out your tongue, rubbing your tummy or waving your hands in
the air! You act out the funny monkey picture on the card to ask other players
if they have your matchesits like Go Fish, but a little sillier and more
animated! If you enjoy acting like an animal, youll go wild over this card game!
The cards come in a cute monkey storage case!
Go Fish is one of the first card games that every child learns to play for one
reason because it is easy! Well, Patch Products found a way to make it even
easier and more fun! Instead of asking for a card by number, your kids are
going to up and acting out a monkey movement on a card to seek out their match.
More fun and even easier!
Unlike most card games that are packaged in a flimsy box that is guaranteed to
break or rip (with a bit of help from small hands), Go Ape! is packaged in a
durable (and adorable) plastic monkey case. No durability questions.
Watching Go Ape! in action is one of the most fun things parents and teachers
can do. Kids just love acting silly and acting silly is the name of this game!
Awesome Visual Appeal!
Go Fish is fun. Kids like to play it. Go Ape! is crazy fun! Kids like to get up
and get moving get crazy and get laughing! Go Ape! takes care of that for sure!
Most card games weve reviewed come in between $5 and $7. By their nature they
are just inexpensive toys/games. On the other end of the spectrum is Go Ape!
because it comes in a nice plastic (adorable) carrying case. Thats where the
extra dollars go and we get it we just like our card games a little less
expensive.
Is Go Ape! orignal? You bet it is! Its an awesome original twist on Go Fish and
we dig that.
Overall your kids are going to love playing Go Ape! They are going to love it so
much that you are going to find yourself playing more games of Go Ape! then you
ever would have expected. Its easy to play its super fun for kids and above
all it will have them laughing and laughing as they act out their monkey cards.
An excellent game for fun loving kids (and their parents)!

[Toy] Brainstorm of a G1 nature.

Toy has posted a new item, 'Brainstorm of a G1 nature.'

A year or so ago, I managed to gain another one of the beloved HeadMasters. I
have loved this concept since the day I got my grubby kiddy hands on Mindwipe.
Slowly but surely I am getting a few more toys that feature this gimmick and
here I have a few shots of Brainstorm, one that I have wanted over the others
for a while now.

What I loved about the Headmasters was that their heads transformed into little
pilots for the vehicle, or in the case of the Decepticons, trainers for the
beast modes. I preferred the way the Japanese continuity dealt with the story
though. I just didnt really make sense for the Transformer to combine and allow
a totally different being to control their body for them like in the US/UK
story. Anyway, as you can see, Brainstorm is a wide robot. Remember these are
Generation One toys, so a certain amount of chunk is expected. He comes with two
guns and his pilot, Arcana, supposedly the guy who engineered the Headmaster
process. I quite like the look of the robot mode for this guy to be honest. He
has enough details on him to keep him interesting. He is slightly taller than a
modern deluxe.Arcana is a fairly well sculpted little fellow. I think the heads
of the Headmasters usually come out looking pretty good for such little guys.
Sure, articulation isnt anything fantastic, but they do come with up/down
movement in the shoulders, which was added as it isnt needed for their head
mode. The legs are relegated to what is needed for transforming and the knees
are pinned together. The chest is always nicely sculpted and they all have a
panel that folds down to cover the robot face on their back. Unfortunately this
gets loose over the years and most will fall covering the robots face when its
being used on the main robot.

One thing I find most odd in the design though is the arms. there is a solid
corner in the underarms, which pushes the backpack back from the front of the
figure. This causes avoidable stress on not only the chest and back, but also
the shoulder joint. As a result, I have seen more than a few Headmaster heads
missing an arm or two. I have a Grax who is missing an arm and sadly its needed
to give the side of the robot head a side.

The head mode is pretty cool though. I do like the details that are sculpted on
there to give them all great personality, but considering how the heads are a
lot larger than other G1 heads, which have some great sculpted detail as well,
its not an amazing feat on these big boys.

I do wish that Brainstorms eyes were a different colour to the rest of his face
though. The head becomes the neck (of sorts, no movement though) and the square
plugs on the shoulders of the little robot help with the stats gimmick that was
a big thing on the head masters.Like thus:

The robot mode looks a bit dorky without the head and they dont have any necks,
so until the head is there, its chunk-city.

You know I think even from the back, old brainstorm looks pretty cool, despite
having the nose of his vehicle mode hanging off him.For me though, vehicle mode
is where the love is.lets check him out.

He looks like a very convincing future jet thing. Nice. The guns on the side of
the nose come off to form the robot mode guns. There isnt that much ambient
sculpting going on, but there are a few nice simple touches such as vents and
air intakes about the place. As my one is getting on now, I have noticed that
his thigh joints are incredibly stiff, I'll have to look into finding a way to
lubricate them up a little. Even the back looks fine with the port for the head
there. Brainstorm also has some little wheels on the bottom for rolling along
the floor when required.Of course Arcana can sit in the cockpit of the jet for
fun flying action!

Transformation for this guy is simple, believe me instructions are not required
as youll be able to work out what goes where just by looking at these pictures,
but its quick and fun and works well in the middle of play battle.I really love
this guy. In fact I love all of the Headmasters I have come across in the
plastic. For me, the little pilot really adds an extra dimension to play. Now,
not only do you have big robots to smash up stuff, you have little human sized
dudes to go into bars and pick fights with other aliens, then they all run out
into the street and OH MY! Arcana can suddenly finish the bar fight in control
of a big jet sized robot. Sure the colours might be a bit naff, but you cant
deny that he definitely looks like an Autobot. With Brainstorm especially I like
his future Jet mode. Its very very cool and to be honest, I would LOVE to see
Hasbro/TakTom revisit the Headmasters (with working Headmaster Gimmick) in the
Generations line. how sweet would a modern engineered Headmaster toy be? After
all they have done a TargetMaster and successfully re-issued Fortress Maximus.
Obviously I am not the only one out there who loves the Headmasters.
