Job Summary
The Senior Associate of Policy and Programs will manage projects and staff,
conduct research, write reports, craft policy positions, develop legislative
strategy, and conduct other initiatives to advance the organization's mission.
The position also involves facilitating stakeholder groups; legislative
advocacy; strategic planning; forming partnerships with industry, government,
and environmental groups; and related efforts. The Senior Associate of Policy
and Programs will also help develop new business opportunities.
Responsibilities include:
â Work independently, with other staff, and with external experts to
manage complex projects.
â Manage, direct, and oversee daily work products, and act in a mentoring
capacity for junior associates and interns.
â Design and conduct research, and develop analytical reports.
â Ensure that projects and programs meet quality, timeline, and budget
goals, and align with PSI's mission and strategic plan.
â Seek out and develop projects that further the organization's mission,
as well craft proposals for funding opportunities in collaboration with other
staff.
â Design, coordinate, and facilitate multi-stakeholder meetings and
conference calls pertaining to technical product stewardship topics; build
strong relationships with companies, environmental groups, and government
agencies.
â Keep abreast of product stewardship topics worldwide across all product
categories (including legislation and voluntary initiatives), and advise PSI's
Chief Executive Officer and PSI members and partners, particularly during the
legislative process.
â Represent PSI at conferences and meetings nationwide.
â Provide input into the organization's Strategic Plan, and advise in its
implementation.
Qualifications & Requirements
The Senior Associate of Policy and Programs will have a strong environmental
background, preferably in product stewardship and Extended Producer
Responsibility, and may have specific background in environmental science,
economics, environmental policy, or a related field.
â Masters Degree in an environmental discipline, or equivalent. At least 8
years experience in the environmental field.
â Adept at managing complex projects to produce high-quality results, on
time, and within budget.
â Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced organization with numerous
priorities.
â Demonstrated success in team leadership, management, and mentoring
junior staff.
â Ability to work collaboratively and objectively with representatives
from government, industry, and environmental groups.
â Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including
exceptional writing, presentation, and data analysis skills, and the ability to
translate ideas into clear, compelling proposals, presentations, and reports.
â Ability and initiative to identify and build relationships with
potential clients and partners.
â Positive âlet's make it happenâ attitude.
â Knowledge of voluntary and regulatory product stewardship programs,
laws, and regulations in the U.S. and abroad. Specific knowledge about product
stewardship for pharmaceuticals, packaging, electronics, and mercury-containing
products preferred.
